Dean Chenoweth Memorial

M5 Performance boats take the victories on a beautiful Saturday in Ellensburg

Facebook photo album available HERE

The Meyers Autotech Championship Series powered by Rattlesnake RC arrived early on Satruday morning for a unique doubleheader, with the Dean Chenoweth Memorial race on Saturday, and the Bernie Little Memorial race on Sunday. For the first time in 2025, the weather dawned beautifully at Irene Rinehart Riverfront Park, with a slight breeze that lessened throughout the day and sunny skies around 80 degrees.

The field was full and competitive, with 39 boats on hand across four classes to battle for the trophies. Thanks to the help of the members, the race was run efficiently, and the club was ready for another big day on Sunday.

1/10th Scale Electric Final

1st: 1974 Miss U.S., Brooklyn Kinney

2nd (DNF): 1983 American Speedy Printing, Lexy Brandt

The two girls were the only entrants for the 1/10th scale class all weekend, but all heats were competitive when both boats worked. Unfortunately for the final, Lexy's boat encountered mechanical difficulties, and Brooklyn cruised to her 3rd victory of 2025.

Gas Scale Consolation

1st: 1977 Miss Tri-Cities, Neil Boyle

2nd: 1962 Miss Bardahl, Ken Boyle

3rd (DNF): 1977 Atlas Van Lines, Jim Whyte

4th (DNS): 1985 Coor's Light, Jeff Griffin

The Atlas capped a tough day on the water with failing to finish, leaving the water to the two Boyles, making their first races of 2025. It was Neil who emerged victorious and advanced to the final with the Miss Tri-Cities.

Gas Scale Final

1st: 1983 KISW Miss Rock, Dave Brandt

2nd: 1977 Charlie's Girl, Mike Henriksen

3rd: 1983 Miss Houston, Henry Oord

4th: 1984 Risley's Express, Derek Pierce

5th (DNF): 1983 American Speedy Printing, Bill Brandt

6th (DNF): 1977 Miss Tri-Cities, Neil Boyle

Dave Brandt continued his dominant 2025, taking the early lead and never looking back as he made it 5-for-5 with the Miss Rock. Mike Henriksen and Henry Oord gave it their best shot before rounding out the podium behind.

1/8th Scale Electric (FE) Consolation

1st: 1978 Squire Shop (U-65), Steven Kinney

2nd: 2011 Red Dot, Jason Colean

3rd (DNF): 1972 Notre Dame, Lexy Brandt

4th (DNF): 1974 Miss Weisfield's, Bobby Colean

The Squire Shop had plenty of speed all weekend, and was able to overcome a tough day by taking the victory in the consolation and advancing to the final. Jason Colean gave charge with the Red Dot, but was not able to come back and finished second.

1/8th Scale Electric (FE) Final

1st: 1987 Eliminator, Dave Brandt

2nd: 1983 Miss Houston, Henry Oord

3rd: 1978 Squire Shop (U-65), Steven Kinney

4th (DNF): 1983 Miss Renault, Ken Boyle

5th (DNF): 1989 Winston Eagle, Fred Stock

6th (DNS): 1975 Miss Valvoline, Ken Hash

7th (DSQ): 1984 Team Velocity, Mike Henriksen

The first turn was chaotic, as the Eliminator and the Team Velocity were side-by-side and racing tight. The Team Velocity turned into the roostertail, and the boat raised up then stuffed, acting like a submarine for half of a second. When it emerged, the boat was square in the lane of the Winston Eagle. The Winston's sponsons pierced the Team Velocity just behind the right sponson, and the carbon fiber Winston split the Team Velocity. Check out the link below for a photo of the damage. Remarkably, Mike would get the Team Velocity taped together and ran the following day!

Meanwhile, Dave Brandt's Eliminator was enjoying the calm waters, and took his fourth victory of 2025. It was the first of two victories for boats built by M5 Performance on the day.

1/8th Scale Nitro Consolation

1st: 2012 Matrix Auto Systems, Brian Anderson

2nd: 2011 Miss Lakeridge Paving, Gary Grembowski

3rd (DNF): 1993 Miss Rock, Brent Edinger

4th (DNS): 2010 Superior Racing, Jeff Griffin

Brian Anderson bested Gary Grembowski in the World Famous Racing dual, advancing to the final over the Lakeridge.

1/8th Scale Nitro Final

1st: 1988 Miss Stroh's Light, Scott Meyers

2nd: 1979 Miss Circus Circus, Geoffry Grembowski

3rd: 1983 American Speedy Printing (R/W/Y), Mike Malloy

4th: 1983 American Speedy Printing (Blue), Bill Brandt

5th: 1974 Miss U.S., Steven Kinney

6th: 1978 Squire Shop (U-65), Dave Brandt

7th (DNF): 2012 Matrix Auto Systems, Brian Anderson

Scott Meyers jumped out to an early lead in lane two, and the surprisingly calm waters played right into the hands of the M5 Performance boat. Geoffry Grembowski kept him honest with the Circus, but Scott smartly managed the lead to take his first victory of 2025. Mike Malloy returned with an impressive finish to round out the podium.
