The original Griffon Bud was built in 1976 for Bernie Little's team, before it was replaced for a larger version for 1978. The boat was sold and raced over a variety of sponsors over the next few years under Bob Taylor from Houston. It raced until 1984, when it was stripped and parts were used to build Ed Cooper's U-3 boat.

In 1982, the boat raced as the Miss Prodelco for 5 races, and the Budweiser Light for 2. Steve Reynolds drove the boat as the Miss Prodelco, as the boat had a best finish of 2nd at Evansville. The team finished 6th in national high points.
