The Gilmore debuted in 1974 as the Valu-Mart. It campaigned as many boats throughout the 70s, including the Olympia Beer, Natural Light, Circus Circus, and finally the Gilmore in 1982. There are talks of plans to restore the boat at the Hydroplane and Raceboat Museum; Dave Bartush of Detroit owned it last.
In 1982, the boat ran as the U-13. Scott Pierce drove the boat for a few races, and Steve Reynolds did the rest after Pierce quit because he was not getting paid by the team (Perfect 10 Racing) and its owner, Mary Anglewicz. As the U-13, the Gilmore ran 4 races; its best finish was a 6th at Madison. It ran as the U-51 Gilmore Special for 1 race at Houston. It finished 12th in high points.
