Ole Bardahl's first boat as an owner was a rocket ship, claiming a championship in its debut in 1958 and finishing 2nd, 4th, and 2nd in subsequent years. The 58 Bardahl became an iconic boat, and paved the way for one of the most successful boats in hydroplane history, the 1962 Miss Bardahl.

In 1958, Norm Evans piloted the boat as it claimed the championship. It won in its debut in Chelan, WA, and picked up additional victories in Buffalo and Washington DC during the 10 races that it competed in.
